Tallaght’s women’s team got their first win of the season with a fine victory on the road in Longford. Longford took the lead with a converted try but Lorraine Cleary scored the first try for Tallaght after 10 minute to level it with Caoimhe Hogan converting superbly from the sideline. Longford hit back with another try but Tallaght had the Meenagh sisters Anne and Ciara starting in the centre and they formed a “Meenagh Machine” mowing down anyone that came near them with their ruthless and aggressive tackling.

It wasn’t just in defence that they were effective though as Ciara went over for a try under the posts and with Caoimhe Hogan converted again, it left Tallaght 14-12 at half-time. The second half started with Ann Meenagh going over under the posts and Caoimhe Hogan added the two points again for Tallaght to lead 19-12. Then Ciara Meenagh went over for her second try of the game with 8 minutes to go giving Tallaght an 11 point lead. But Tallaght still weren’t done still and experienced scrum-half Anne Kavanagh ran from deep and scored in the corner with the last play of the game making the final score 33-17.
