Tallaght R.F.C. 19

Tries: Sarah Obafemi 3
Con: Caoimhe Young 2

Womens League Division 4
College Park
25/09/16

Tallaght’s women’s team kicked off their league campaign away to Trinity College. They got a great start when after five minutes, winger Sarah Obafemi was put into space and streaked away to score a great try under the posts. She repeated the dose five minutes later with another spectacular try from even further out. Young converted again and Tallaght led 14-0. Trinity came back into the game after that though, scoring two tries to make it 14-10 at half-time.

Tallaght came out strongly in the second half. Newcomers Shauna Power, Audrey Fullham and Leone Eugene were all playing their first competitive game of rugby but they acquitted themselves superbly, throwing themselves into tackles. Ciara McLaughlin was dangerous on the counter attack and skipper Catherine Murphy put in her usual big shift as a ball carrier.

Trinity’s passing game was that big sharper though and they scored two more unconverted tries to lead 20-14. Tallaght weren’t finished though and once again Sarah Obafemi was the danger. She was fed the ball from a scrum and she simply ran around the Trinity team to score her hat-trick try. Caoimhe Young struck the difficult conversion very well but it fell just agonisingly short.

Tallaght kept going to try to get the winning score but Trinity held on for the win. However it was an excellent display from Tallaght which promises a lot for the season to come.
