After losing narrowly to St. Marys in their last match in Templeville Road, Tallaght’s B team got their first win of the season with a victory over the Emerald Warriors. Tallaght scored their first try after a break from out-half Rob Hudson was finished off by flanker David Kelly who enjoyed scoring against his former club. The electric Hudson then made another break and scored the try himself this time for Tallaght to lead 10-0. The Warriors hit back with a well worked try but Hudson got on the scoreboard again for Tallaght to lead 15-5. The Warriors’ backs were dangerous and they got another good try to make it 15-10 but Tallaght scored from close range through Gary Doyle to lead 20-10 at half-time after strong carries from Alan Sower and Frank Doyle to set things up.

Tallaght scored the first try of the second half when Brian Tyrrell powered over from a scrum to make it 25-10. Once again the Warriors came back with another try to reduce Tallaght’s lead to 10 points. Tallaght one again responded quickly with Rob Hudson completing his hat-trick before missing his sixth conversion attempt from six attempts (a perfect record).

Burning with sibling jealousy after watching his brother Brian score, Luke Tyrrell managed to sneak over for a try that should really have been disallowed due to a total absence of aesthetic merit. Tyrrell’s wildly ostentatious celebrations were not in keeping with the spirit of the game and were met with thinly concealed disdain by his team-mates. A far more popular scorer was Aaron Shanahan who went over for the final try of the night and finally Tallaght converted a try when Alun Barnes drop-kicked it through the posts.

Simon Gaskell was pleased with his side’s work. “There were good points and bad points from the game but I’m not going to dwell on the bad ones as overall I’m happy with the performance. The lads all put a great shift in, with several playing out of position. Once again the pack were dominant in attack and the backs made the most of every ball they were given. Credit to the Warriors though, they really made us work for every single point and never gave up. Man of the match has to go to Rob Hudson for his hat trick but I must mention Bryan Donnelly for stepping up and playing front row at the last minute, the rest of the pack for the relentless ball carrying and Alun Barnes (the Welsh cousin of Alan Bernes) for a solid game at scrum-half”.
