The amalgamated teams TaBarys (Tallaght St. Mary & Old Belvedere) played together on Saturday against stiff opposition with mixed results for both the U15 and U18.
TaBarys U15 played away to Portarlington and traveled with 7 players. TaBarys got a loan of 3 players from Portarlington and they played fantastic. It was like the 3 girls Michelle Ava and Lucy had always played on the team. the TaBarys team welcomed them with open arms.
From the start TaBarys ran hard and fast and didn’t shy away from the contact lead by captain Hannah Reilly who took crash balls into a tough and strong defense. Supported constantly by Lynn and Kerri who received pop passes and drove the team forward. After going 1 try down early on TaBarys responded with a try from Sinead Tyrrell who took a great pass from Kayleigh Preston and ran 50 meters to score under the posts. 3 more trys were scored by TaBarys with the best team try scored by Angel Ashe Kilroy after fantastic support play from Ashling Tyrrell who stood in at scrum half after her sister Sinead left the field with an injury. TaBarys were reduced to 9 girls for the second half but still stood up tall and done themselves proud. The result went to Portalington with 32-20 result
TaBarys U18 played away to Carlow RFC and came home with a 17-17 draw. The girls fought hard and nearly came away with the points until Carlow scored under the posts in the last minute the conversion was to be taken and TaBarys ran down the kick to keep the game at a draw. Trys scored by Ashling Fields Jess Keating and Vicki Brown brough TaBarys into the lead and they fought hard to keep a strong Carlow side out of the try area. powerful play from Judy Bobbett, Laura Crossen and Sinead Aspell kept TaBarys in the lead until the last minute. The support play from Liza Gibson and Marina Politis drove the 8 player team forward and breaking the gain line through out the game.
