The Tallaght women’s team hosted Swords RFC in Division 4A of the women’s league. After a series of cancellations recently Tallaght were just happy to play their first match in seven weeks especially after the heavy rain in the morning. It took Tallaght a little while to get going but once they did, full back Megan Fogarty broke clear to score an excellent try under the posts. Skipper Caoimhe Hogan converted and Tallaght led 7-0.
Tallaght were playing into a strong wind and the rain was still falling heavily but that didn’t stop them scoring one of the best tries of the season. It started in their own half as Megan Fogarty made a break and there followed a series of offloads between Cíara McLoughlin, Aisling Pyke, Fogarty and Lorraine Cleary who popped up twice in the movement as Tallaght advanced up the pitch. They were finally tackled close to the Swords line but Audrey Fulham showed good awareness to pick and go from the ruck to score a try in the corner to give Tallaght a 12-0 lead.
The powerful Aisling Pyke was next on the score-sheet for Tallaght smashing through a couple of tackles to break clear for a try. Fogarty broke away herself again for her second try of the match and Hogan converted both tries to make the half-time score 26-0 to Tallaght. It wasn’t long into the second half before Tallaght scored their next try, this time it was Cíara McLoughlin who broke clear to score. Hogan converted and she did so again while Pyke powered over for her second try of the match to make it 40-0. The scores kept coming and Jacinta Purcell came on to score her first try for the club. Then Hogan got a try of her own before Megan Fogarty completed her hat-trick to make the final score 55-0.
Tallaght coach Adam Nolan was delighted with his team’s performance. “It was a dirty, wet day but our pack really went well and provided a platform for the backs to do their thing. Ashling Pyke was immense again going forward and Roisin Doyle made a ridiculous amount of tackles, but the woman of the match goes to Megan Fogarty who scored an outstanding hat-trick of tries”.
