Tallaght kept their 100% record going with their fourth win from four games in the Division 7 of the Metro League. Parkmore opened the scoring with a penalty after Tallaght conceded a penalty from the kick-off. Tallaght were a little slow out of the blocks but they soon got going, led by their talismanic skipper Simon Sweeney. His big carries plus Ciaran Stewart’s astute tactical kicking got Tallaght playing in the right areas of the pitch. It paid off when Stewart was given two shots at goal which he converted for Tallaght to take a 6-3 lead.

The heavens opened which made the game scrappier but Tallaght upped the tempo and after excellent handling from centre Jack Russell, wing Stephen Heaney went in for a try in the corner. The touchline conversion was narrowly missed and 11-3 was the half-time score.

In the second half Tallaght lost Sweeney to a dead leg but replacement backrows Aaron Morgan and Sean Judd were so impressive, their mighty skipper wasn’t actually missed too much. Tallaght showed great patience in building their scores as Stewart extended their lead to 17-3 with two more excellent penalties in another fine kicking display in blustery and wet conditions. The match was over as a contest when Collie Malone kicked through a ball from a ruck. From the chase to touch it down, Stewart was impeded when he was about to touch down and the referee awarded a penalty try which Stewart converted to make the score 24-3.

There was two more tries for Tallaght, both involving man of the match Jack Russell. First he took a clever trailing line off Collie Malone’s powerful run. He took Malone’s excellent offload and smashed through a tackler to get in for the try. Then Russell turned provider when he made a superb run and offloaded to Aaron Morgan who went through for the try under the posts to make it 36-3 to Tallaght. To Parkmore’s credit they never gave up and scored a consolation try with the last play of the game to make the final score 36-10 to Tallaght.

So Tallaght stay top and they have a rest next week before facing second placed Old Belvedere in what could be a crunch match in determining the winners of the league.
