TALLAGHT R.F.C. 0

PARKMORE R.F.C. 0

Metro League Division 7
18/01/14 Tymon Park

Tallaght’s play-off hopes took a blow today when they were held to a scoreless draw by Parkmore in Tymon Park. With consistent rain and a boggy pitch, the weather was the only winner on a day when scoring chances were few and far between. Parkmore dominated for the first twenty minutes but the closest they came to scoring was a penalty kick at goal which went wide.

Tallaght then dominated the next quarter of the match. Jack Russell made an excellent individual run but was tackled before he could get over the line. A long-range penalty attempt by Ciaran Stewart was narrowly wide but Tallaght followed up the kick and earned a scrum on their line. However with the ball like a bar of soap, their handling repeatedly let them down and Parkmore escaped.

In the second half things went from bad to worse with a game basically becoming a series of knock-ons and resulting scrums. There was one moment of quality from wing Vilius Kuklis who made a brilliant individual break and had only the full back to beat. However the full back made a superb cover tackle and Kuklis injured his ankle in the incident, ending his game. There were a few nervous moments for Tallaght as they struggled to get out of their own twenty two for the last ten minutes.

However eventually the ref did everyone a favour and blew the final whistle. With Old Wesley winning away to Coolmine they now replace Tallaght in second place in the table on points difference.
