More than 12,000 players will be signing up for the on-field and off-field fun at Irish rugby clubs in various locations throughout the four provinces.

IRFU Volkswagen Tag is an ever popular non-contact form of rugby aimed at players both male and female aged 18 years and above. Its non-contact element makes it unique where leagues take place at beginners level to the more experienced A Grades with teams comprised of both men and women together. Veteran Men’s Leagues also take place at select venues.

In addition to regular Summer leagues, Spring leagues have expanded and are run in locations in Belfast, Cork, Dublin, Limerick and Waterford. Beach Tag will revisit Strandhill and Portstewart and the season finale will take place in the form of the All-Ireland Championships at Old Belvedere.

A typical IRFU Volkswagen Tag season for a team will continue for nine/ten weeks, with one match per week starting in May. Enjoying the excellent facilities that a rugby club provides before and after a weekly tag game, a player pays only what amounts to less than €4 per week for a memorable summer playing Ireland’s fastest growing sport.

Registering a team also gives that player the chance to win VIP prizes to an Ireland home international at the Aviva Stadium, namely one of Ireland v South Africa, Georgia or Australia. These prizes, exclusive to IRFU Volkswagen Tag registered players only, will include match tickets and invites to the official post-match team reception in the stadium afterwards.

Olly Hodges, IRFU Leisure Rugby Manager, said: “The choice of host clubs welcoming the numbers through their gates, grows as the playerbase expands further still.

As each club generally completes their rugby season by April or May, programmes such as IRFU Volkswagen Tag are welcome vehicles for keeping the clubhouse and facilities open and active during this time.

As Summer leagues in the most popular venues tend to fill up by as early as the beginning of April each year, don’t leave registration too late.
