The Tallaght’s men’s first team were finally awarded the trophy and medals for winning the Metro League Division 6 championship for the 2019-2020 season in the Maldron Hotel in Tallaght.
Tallaght were due to play Terenure in the final in March 2020 but then Covid 19 intervened. When the final couldn’t be played Tallaght were awarded the trophy as they had finished top of the table winning 11 of their 12 games.
Robert Deacon from the Leinster branch was kind enough to come out on a cold night to present the trophy to vice captain David Clarke, who stood in for skipper Adam Nolan who was away. Some players couldn’t make the presentation (it was after all clashing with the Christmas Late Late show) but they will be presented with their medals at a later date.
After the presentation a table quiz was held as a fundraiser for the Tallaght RFC “Forever Home” project. The quiz was won by Table 7 who showed a touch of class when they donated half the €100 winning prize back to the club and gave the other half to the Maldron serving staff.
The club wishes to thanks Andy Grace, Ciara O’Brien, Rob Carthy, Chloe Conroy and Colin Morrison for organising and running the quiz on the night. We also thank all the local businesses and sponsors who donated prizes for the raffle and to players Niall Mahon and Karl Segrave who organised some prizes as well. We also wish to think all the staff at the Maldron for their great service on the night.
Finally we want to thank all the players, friends and family who came out on a brutally cold night to support the event and also those who bought raffle tickets but couldn’t attend. Your wonderful generosity raised the magnificent sum of €3,500. It was a really fun night so thanks to everyone who made it happen.
