Metro League Division 6

Fifth placed Tallaght took league leaders Clontarf in Metro Division 6 on the all-weather pitch in Castle Avenue.
Clontarf started well and quickly raced into a 21-0 lead with three converted tries. Simon Collie hit back for Tallaght spotting a gap at a ruck and racing away to score a fine try. Rob Hudson converted to make it 21-7. This signalled a period of a dominance for Tallaght where they were camped in the Clontarf twenty two. They twice turned down easy penalties in front of the posts in favour of tap penalties. But frustratingly the ball was either wastefully kicked away or knocked on and Tallaght ultimately left with nothing. Clontarf then rubbed salt in the would by breaking away to score another converted try to make the half-time score 28-7.
Clontarf kept up their scoring in the second half scoring two more tries and converting one to increase their lead to 40-7. Tallaght were helped by Clontarf getting a yellow card for a high tackle and they took advantage to score two tries through Luke Deegan and Kevin Quinn. Rob Hudson converted one of them to make the final score 40-19.
Tallaght head coach Adam Nolan said it was a frustrating watch. “At times when we clicked we played some good rugby but too often our workrate wasn’t good enough. We need to work harder and that starts at training.”
