Seapoint 22
John Madden Cup

Tallaght took on Seapoint in the quarter-finals of the John Madden Cup in their first competitive game of the season.
Many Tallaght stalwarts have retired since last season and a lot of young players were making their debut. An experienced Seapoint team took advantage and dominated the rucks to take a ten point lead with two unconverted tries in the first quarter. Then Seapoint seemed to tire a little and Tallaght played better in the second quarter putting together some decent phases, but not troubling the scoreboard.
In the second half, Seapoint made the game safe scoring two more tries and converting one of them to make it 22-0. Tallaght kept trying but their discipline let them down and Andrey Tsapenko was shown a yellow card after repeated infringements at the breakdown. There was no further scores and the game finished 22-0 to Seapoint.
Head Coach Adam Nolan said his side’s discipline and decision-making wasn’t good enough. “Physically, I thought we competed well with them, but they are an experienced side and they were just that bit smarter. The good news is that we get another crack at them in two weeks in the first game in the league. So we need to learn from this game and really commit to a good two weeks of training to give ourselves a chance of some payback.”
