The Tallaght women’s team travelled to Wicklow to face Greystones.
Greystones scored from their first phase of play to take a 7-0 lead. Tallaght were facing an onslaught of pressure but they defended well for the next fifteen minutes before Greystones broke through again to make it 12-0. Then hooker Orlaith Plunkett was shown a yellow card after Tallaght had conceded one too many penalties. Greystones scored two more tries in Plunkett’s absence to lead 24-0 at half-time. In the second half, Greystones doubled their score with four more tries and two more conversions to finish out 48-0 winners. This has been one of several lopsided scores in the division so far this season and you wonder if it was put together too hastily.
Tallaght head coach Andy Grace said it was a tough day. ”We were always going to be up against it today with a few players injured and unavailable. The game was over as a contest by half-time but the players kept fighting and tackling and turned down the chance to end the game early. We’ll learn from it and will take those lessons into our next game at home to Ashbourne next weekend in Tymon Park.”
