Tallaght women took on fellow strugglers Longford in Division 3 on a wet and windy day in CPL park.
As Longford were struggling for numbers they started with 13 players but had to drop to 12 as the scrum was uncontested. Despite having an extra player, Tallaght struggled to take advantage. They dominated the first half and created several good chances, but every time they looked like scoring the ball would be knocked on. In the end, neither team scored in the first half.
In the second half, Tallaght continued to struggle to score with more poor passing and option taking. Longford gradually got themselves into the game and they scored a converted try fifteen minutes from time to take a 7-0 lead. Tallaght still had time to get back into it but there was a total lack of intensity in their performance and a comeback never looked likely. Shortly before the end, Longford broke away for a try under the posts and converted to seal a 14-0 win.
Tallaght assistant coach Mark Keogh congratulated Longford. “They stayed in the game when under pressure and then took their chances when they came, so fair play to them. The conditions were tough but we were never anywhere close to our best.”
