Metro League Division 8/9 Phase 1 Group B

Tallaght took on table toppers the Dogos in Metro League Division 8/9 Phase 1 Group B. However after suffering several injuries last week in the win over Terenure, Tallaght only had sixteen players available. Despite that, Tallaght were competitive for the first twenty minutes and the game remained scoreless.
However in the second quarter of the match, the Dogos took a more direct approach and started finding holes in the Tallaght defence. The scored three tries and converted two of them to take a 19-3 lead with Tallaght replying through a Rob Hudson penalty. Tallaght finished the half strongly though and a nice pass from Adam Nolan put Mick Corrigan in for a try which left the half-time score at 19-8.
In the second half, Tallaght had the benefit of the wind and some fine kicking from Daryl Maxwell put Tallaght in great positions. The Dogos earned a yellow card but although Tallaght had many great chances to score, they just couldn’t get over the line. The Dogos scored another converted try to make it 26-8. There was a second Dogos yellow card for a dangerous tackle. Ciaran Rudd and Rahell Hussain scored tries for Tallaght in between another converted Dogos try to make the final score 33-18 to the Dogos.
Player/coach Adam Nolan said he was proud of his team’s attitude in the circumstances. “It was another performance where we didn’t get the result but can be proud of our efforts. The scoreline doesn’t truly reflect the game or performance. We had chances and just didn’t take them and maybe conceded some cheap tries too but I think the big problem was the depth showing in our squad today. From last week having 22 and not being able to name some players to this week being down to 16. The players really had to dig in and push through some pain so I am so proud of each and everyone in the squad today.
The message for everyone in the club or who reads this and thinks about playing is please do come along to training! Now is the time when the club really needs the extra bodies! We are happy with the week break as we now prepare for Carlow away in a fortnight.”
Before the match, there was a minute’s silence in honour of Trish Heaney, who passed away during the week. Trish, the mother of Tallaght Chairman Stephen and former player Paul, was a regular spectator on the sidelines down the years along with her husband John. Everyone at the club extends their deepest sympathies to the Heaney family.
