New Ross 45

Leinster League Division 5/6 Super Six Group A
Ollie Campbell Park

The Tallaght women’s team took on second placed New Ross in a game moved to Ollie Campbell Park. Once again the Council had deemed a perfectly fine Tymon park pitch unplayable and Tallaght were forced to go looking for favours again and big thanks to Old Belvedere for helping out.

Tallaght started the game well and from a kick ahead, the ball bounced fortunately for Louise Leonard Flood to gather the ball and score an opportunistic try to give Tallaght a 5-0 lead. Tallaght were under pressure deep in their own half as New Ross came at them hard but the Tallaght defence held out. Then Louise Leonard Flood kicked ahead and Megan Fogarty chased up and regathered the ball. She broke free to run the length of the pitch and showed great strength to hold off a last ditch tackle to score a fine try to give Tallaght a 10-0 lead.

After that though, New Ross started to dominate using their powerful runners to break tackles up the middle. They scored three converted tries to make it 21-10 at half time and two more to lead 33-10 after 50 minutes. However Tallaght rallied at that point and Chloe Conroy made a great run to score a try but was hit with a high tackle as she touched down so the referee awarded a penalty try to make it 33-17. Then Megan Fogarty scored her second try of the match to reduce the deficit to 33-22. However New Ross quickly shut down any hopes of a comeback scoring the two final tries of the game to make the final score 45-22.

Tallaght head coach Adam Nolan was generally positive despite the scoreline. “We were disrupted before the game with a couple of players dropping out, so we didn’t have our usual level of accuracy. Despite that, we played a lot of good rugby and scored some fine tries. Sam Ledden put in a great shift both carrying and tackling well and deserves player of the match. We’ve a massive game next week against Portlaoise so hopefully we’ll get a few players back for that.”
