Leinster League Division 5
Ferbane
Tallaght took on West Offaly Lions in Division 5 of the Women’s league in Ferbane. Tallaght started well and Aisling Pyke, Adriana Silvela and Louise Leonard Flood scored first half tries with Grainne Leonard Flood and Abbie Keeley each kicking a conversion. But the Lions scored two tries of their own and converted both to make it 19-14 at halftime.
The second half was a much lower scoring affair. Tallaght had several chances to seal the win with another score but were left frustrated by the referee’s interpretations, at the breakdown especially, and couldn’t make the chances count. The Lions hung in there and scored a try out wide and kicked an excellent conversion to make the final score 21-19 to the Lions.
Tallaght head coach Adam Nolan was pleased with the overall display despite the result. “We had only ten players and we were especially short on outside backs. We could have conceded but we travelled a long way down and competed and got a losing bonus point. Fair play to the Lions, it’s their first win of the season. But I’m proud of the effort the team put in with only ten players and no subs. We remain third in the league and have New Ross and Wanderers away before our last two games at home in March. With the character in this team, we’ll keep fighting.”
