Leinster Division 5/6 Plate

Tallaght women took on Wanderers at home in the Leinster Division 5/6 Plate.
Tallaght had some good chances early on, but couldn’t finish them off. But then after ten minutes Louise Leonard Flood made a strong carry from a tap penalty and the ball was worked out wide to Chloe Conroy who powered through a tackle to open the scoring. Grainne Leonard Flood added the conversion to make it 7-0. Tallaght quickly added another try when Conroy made another linebreak and put Martina Fitzpatrick in for a try in the corner. However Wanderers showed they had some dangerous runners when they broke some soft tackles and ran away to score a try under the posts to make the halftime score 12-7 to Tallaght.
Tallaght started the second half well. First Sam Ledden took a great line near a ruck and powered over for a try converted by Grainne Leonard Flood to make it 19-7. Then Abbie Keeley made a fine break and put Kim Littlefield over for a try to make it 24-7.
Tallaght were 17 points up and perhaps complacency kicked in and the energy levels dropped. Wanderers ran through some week tackling to score a try which they converted. Then they did it again! Suddenly Tallaght were only 24-21 up and the game was a contest again. But still Tallaght didn’t appreciate the danger and Wanderers broke away against to score a try to take a 26-24 lead with only five minutes left.
Tallaght were faced with a season ending defeat where they’d blown a huge lead through their own complacency. But they had time to recover and they put some good phases together and Abbie Keeley scored a try out wide to seal a 29-26 win.
Tallaght head coach Adam Nolan was glad his side recovered at the end. “We looked comfortable out there but then th effoer dropped off and suddenly we were in real trouble. In fairness we regathered composure and worked a winning score. So that’s great character but we shouldn’t have been in that position in the first place. But we need to win just one more game and then we’re in a final and then the club will get a day out!”
