Fifth placed Tallaght took on the already relegated Blackrock in their final game of Metro Division 6 for this season.
Tallaght suffered an early blow when Simon Collie and Leön Tanfin had a nasty clash of heads that ended their involvement in the game. Blackrock took advantage to score two tries to take a 14-0 lead. Tallaght had a decent spell of possession and a nice offload from Luke Maher sent Rob Hudson in for a try to make it 14-5. The rest of the half belonged to Blackrock though. Tallaght’s defence was far too passive and they were continually breeched up the middle. Blackrock’s offloading game was very good and they scored five more tries and converted two of them to take a commanding 43-5 lead at half-time.
In the second half, Tallaght had the strong wind at their backs and Rob Hudson and Dave Clarke put in some fine kicks for territory. But Blackrock were still dominating and they hit Tallaght for two long-range tries to increase their lead to 55-5. Tallaght kept going though and David Clarke, Jordan Corrigan and Alex Sadiku scored some fine tries. Andrey Tsapenko then scored his first try for the club in the final play, with Hudson converting to make the final score 55-31. But the late consolation scores flattered Tallaght if they’re honest with themselves.
