Tallaght took on Greystones in their first home Metro 6 league game of the season in Tymon park.

Greystones scored an early try and converted to take a 7-0 lead. Rob Hudson kicked a penalty for Tallaght to make it 7-3. Greystones were busting through Tallaght’s midfield too easily though and they scored two quick-fire tries and converted one of them to take a 19-3 lead. But then Tallaght hit back with a try by Darryl Keogh under the posts which Hudson converted to make it 19-10. Greystones finished the half camped on the Tallaght line but some great defence keep Greystones out.

Greystones started the second half well with two converted tries to make it 33-10. It wasn’t long before they got in again to make it 40-10. Greystones’s discipline wasn’t great though and their left wing was shown a yellow card for a late tackle. Then after a relatively minor scuffle at a ruck, Tallaght’s Sean Judd and a Greystones player were both shown yellows.

Tallaght finished strongly. After strong carries from Kevin Quinn and Brian Lacey, scrum-half Andy Rudd put winger Alex Sadiku over for a try. Then in the last play of the game, Luke Brady Deegan intercepted a loose pass and ran it back for a try from the halfway line. Raheel Hussain converted to make the final score 40-22 to Greystones.

Tallaght head coach Adam Nolan was disappointed with the result but again saw some positives. “It was a bit of a mixed bag performance again. We showed in spells that we are capable of competing when we are switched on, which we saw today in some great defensive sets and attacking phases. But again this was only in spells and not an eighty-minute performance. It was a better performance and it’s clear to see the work is paying off and we’re going in the right direction but we still have more to do. We do need to find another gear in our physicality because in most games this hasn’t been where it needs to be. The scoreline maybe didn’t reflect the improvements but it’s clear to see some positive results are coming down the line.”
