Tallaght took on the Dogos in Division 8 of the Metro League in Lakelands in Terenure.

Tallaght made a fine start to the match when full back Evan Tyrrell was released down the wing and he showed great pace to run in for a try from the halfway line. Rob Hudson kicked a superb conversion from the touchline to give Tallaght a 7-0 lead. The Dogos hit back immediately with with two tries, converting one of them to take a 12-7 lead.

Hudson kicked a long range penalty to reduce the deficit to 12-10 but then Tallaght started to suffer injuries with Hudson, Jordan Corrigan, Alex Sadiku, Craig O’Brien and Colin Morrison all having to leave the pitch. They also weren’t helped by Daryl Maxwell getting a yellow card for taking a player out off the ball. The Dogos took advantage to score two more tries to lead 22-10 at halftime.

In the second half the Dogos scored two more tries and converted one to take a commanding 34-10 lead. In the last quarter of the match, the Dogos got a little sloppy and were shown two yellow cards in quick succession for a high tackle and a deliberate knock on. Playing again thirteen men, Tallaght took advantage when Adam Nolan’s crossfield was fielded superbly by veteran prop Tony McManus. McManus offloaded to Evan Tyrrell who ran the ball under the posts to score his second try of the match. Daryl Maxwell kicked the conversion to make the final score 34-17 to the Dogos.

Tallaght head coach Adam Nolan appreciated the effort shown in adversity. “We started off reasonably well but with the amount of injuries, we lost momentum. Also our tackling technique wasn’t good enough and the Dogos got straight through us for tries too easily far too often. We kept fighting and a lot of players had to fill in in positions they aren’t used to. It was nice to get the final score of the match, but ultimately we were well beaten today because we can’t put together a 80-minute performance.”
