Tallaght women took on the West Offaly Lions away in the Leinster Division 5/6 Plate semi-final.
Tallaght were struggling for player numbers again, especially outside backs and the Lions took advantage ruthlessly to take a 47-0 lead at half-time. In fairness to Tallaght they scored four tries in the second half through Louise Leonard Flood, Abbie Keeley, Adriana Silvela and a penalty try. Grainne Leonard Flood converted three of them to leave the final score 61-28 to the Lions who go on to meet Balbriggan in the final.
Tallaght head coach Adam Nolan was managing his last game as Tallaght Women’s coach. “It was a tough day down in Offaly, and it was always likely to be when only travelling down with 11 players but I couldn’t be prouder of the group. The first half we didn’t do ourselves any favours and conceded 47 unanswered points. The second half was a different story and each and every one of the players showed the true “never give up” attitude that all Tallaght sides have. They kept going, scoring 4 tries of our own and never giving up. The second half everyone really stepped up and brought some physicality and energy. The charge was lead by Lorraine putting in a real captains performance. Adri, Kim and Abbie kept working tirelessly and Louise tackled and ran the show. It was not the happy ending we wanted but definitely an ending we can hold our heads high for.”
I’d like to thank all the players for the work over the year and would urge them all to keep going and try bring some friends along. There is a core of a brilliant team that could win trophies with more bodies. I’d like to thank Lorraine, Martina, Tony and Jim for the support over the year plus all our Supporters who came out home and away.”
