Metro League Division 7

Tallaght took on second placed Greystones in Tymon Park in the Metro League Division 7. Greystones started well and scored a try after five minutes when they worked an overlap to put their prop in at the corner. They missed the conversion but led 5-0. Tallaght hit back with an excellent try though. Morgan Farrell’s subtle pass put skipper Paul Cunningham into space. He passed back inside to Dave Clarke who offloaded to Niall Casey who went in for the try. Farrell converted and Tallaght led 7-5. Greystones hit back with another try though to lead 12-7.
Then there was a remarkable run from Simon Collie which threatened to be Tallaght’s try of the season. Fielding a high ball Collie initially erred and dropped it backwards but he recovered and took off on an eighty yard run leaving countless defenders in his wake. Ten metres from the line he offloaded to Joe Ivers but his pass went was intercepted and the chance was gone. That wasn’t Tallaght’s only chance, Sean Judd made an excellent break into space but his pass went to ground and again the chance went begging.
Greystones showed their class with their ability to take chances and scored two more tries in the first half to lead 26-7 at the break. They scored another early try in the second half to extend their lead but then a niggly game exploded into a mass punch-up. Greystones had a man sent to the bin and Tallaght took advantage when number eight Adam Nolan went over for an excellent team try. Farrell converted again to make it 31-14 but that was as good as it got for Tallaght. Greystones scored two more tries to win 43-14 and reclaim their place on top of a division they’re simply too good for.
