Tallaght Rugby Club is devastated to announce the sudden death of our Youth Development Officer Philip Preston. The Club would like to pass our heartfelt and sympathies to Aoife, Kayleigh, his family and friends. Phillip was a man mountain with a heart of solid gold, his contribution to our club will never be matched on or off the field.
His commitment to his community was recognised by everyone in Tallaght and he was rightly appointed Tallaght person of the year last year.
Reposing at his home on Friday from 4pm to 7pm. Removal on Saturday to St. Mary’s Priory, Tallaght Village arriving for 11am Mass. Funeral immediately afterwards to Newlands Cross Crematorium.
“I’m completely devastated that our talisman has passed away and has been taken from us so abruptly and unfairly. The whole community will never come to terms with this loss; everyone in the club is absolutely devastated. We, as a club, will come together and offer whatever support is needed to Aoife and the entire Preston family. There will never be another Philly Preston his boots are simply too big to fill” – Ken Kinsella President Tallaght RFC
Please leave your memories of Philly:
I’m in absolute shock at this. Phil was such a gentleman and a great character. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. My deepest condolences to his family.
On my first day training, we were doing fitness drills. No one likes them, but he encouraged me to keep pushing, reminding me that it pays off on match day in the 60th, 70th minutes. He also was great on the social side of things, helping me become friends with the rest of the team. There were so many great days – matches played, pre-season away trips, the Monkstown Christmas game. It’s impossible to pick just one. It’s a devastating loss for the club and the Tallaght community.
Shocked to hear the news today
Philip Preston was a breath of fresh air to this community, Philips presences was felt from the time he arrived at any event
He was a gentle kind man who would go out of his way to help.
We have lost a great community man a great friend and a wonderful family man .
RIP Philip Preston a legend
Thinking of all the family.
Proud to have know Philip
I only got to know Philip this year whilst helping him with the Academy coaching. In all my years of playing sport with GAA County Teams, Rugby Teams, etc., never have I come across such a likeable, enthuastic, encouraging, committed, willing, and infectious personality. Philip simply loved Tallaght, rugby, and life. His loss is very sad. I encourage all of Tallaght to honour his passing by helping to grow Tallaght Rugby and in particular Tallaght Youth Rugby in the years to come. there would be no better way to honour his memory.
I can’t believe it, I was only thinking about him on Monday even though I haven’t seen him in years. I was reminiscing about our rugby tour to LA with AIT and his rallying cry ‘run amuck’! The yanks didn’t know what to make of him, don’t think I ever laughed so much in my life. Had some craic playing with him in AIT and buccs. One of a kind. My deepest sympathies to his family and the whole tallaght community
