Tallaght’s B team played their first game of the season away to Terenure in Lakelands on a freezing cold Friday night. Terenure’s team were a mix of their Division 5 and Division 9 team and their bit of extra experience told as they raced into a 31-0 lead at half-time with the wind at their backs. However Tallaght grew into the game in the second half and Sean Judd and Stephen Kelly were having powerful games as ball carriers. Karl Seagrave showed his gas and footwork to score Tallaght’s first try. Then came the try of the match when Gavin McKeon took advantage of a fine run from Judd to score his first try for Tallaght. It was just deserts for McKeon who excelled playing in the centre for the first time. Then Rob Hudson scored a third Tallaght try to cap an excellent all round display full of attacking intent.
Terenure kept scoring tries to make their margin of victory quite comfortable, but it was a very useful run-out for Tallaght to get players game-time. Skipper Simon Gaskell was proud of his team’s efforts. “With a team playing together for the first time, it was always going to be scrappy and some of our defending wasn’t up to scratch. However it was great to get the lads some game-time and there was strong performances from the likes of Liam Kenny, Sean Judd and Nigel Foster. I had to give Gavin McKeon our man of the match award though as he had a great all round game in attack and defence, capped off by his first try for the club.”
