BGF Ravens 17
Dr Kieran Foley Cup (J5) – Group B
Tymon Park
23/9/2017

Tallaght’s 2nd team hosted the BGF Ravens in their final pool match of the Dr Kieran Foley Cup.  The Ravens scored an early converted try but Ciaran Stewart kicked a penalty to make it 7-3.  With the first’s playing away at the same time, this was the first time most of these players have played together so there was an understandable lack of cohesion.  The Ravens scored two more unconverted tries before Stewart kicked another penalty for Tallaght to make the final score 17-6 to the Northsiders.  Sean Judd found time to pick up his obligatory yellow card.  Elderly prop forward Denis Buckley turned back the clock with an impressive display off the bench which included soaring in the air to take a kick in the manner of his Kerry childhood hero Maurice Fitzgerald.

Coach Brian Curtis was pleased with his team’s effort.  “The team was really put together about half an hour before kick-off so we didn’t have much understanding.  However the lads worked really hard and limited a decent Ravens team to only three tries.  It was great to see both the new faces and some of our older players returning.  Ciaran Stewart showed his class and Denis Buckley put in a strong shift.  We start in the league next week away to Stillorgan and if we can get the lads up to training, we have the guts of a fine team here”.
