Philip Preston, who passed away suddenly in the early hours of Wednesday morning, was a Tallaght RFC legend. As a player he was an old-school tight forward, tough on the pitch but full of fun off it. He loved his rugby and he loved his hometown of Tallaght and he was the ideal man to help bring the game to the youth of Tallaght. As both Youth Development Officer and coach, he inspired a new generation of children to pick up the oval ball. He brought rugby to the communities and took great pride in seeing the youths progress. His boundless enthusiasm and infectious positivity informed everything he did and he was rightly recognised as “Tallaght Person of the Year” in 2015. He’s been taken from his wife Aoife and daughter Kayleigh, his family and his friends at far too young an age, but he leaves us with many treasured memories as a team-mate, coach, club man and friend. We’ve put together some pictures of Phil’s contribution to Tallaght over the years on and off the pitch. Thanks to all the photographers who took them.
