Tallaght R.F.C. 0

Naas R.F.C. 52

Women’s League Division 4
Pitch 100, Firhouse
14/10/2018

Tallaght took on league leaders Naas today and suffered a bad beating, conceding 10 tries in a 52-0 defeat. Naas were coached by Ireland International Jenny Murphy and Adam Coyle, who was capped by the senior Leinster team last season. Their team was far more experienced and they won well, taking advantage of some poor Tallaght defending to score seven tries in the first half.

Tallaght regrouped somewhat in the second half and played some decent rugby but eventually Naas re-asserted their dominance and they scored three more tries, one of which they finally successfully converted, to make the final score 52-0 to Naas. Marta Hoppe came closest to a Tallaght try when she made a great run handing off several defenders only to lose control of the ball going over the line.

Tallaght coach Adam Nolan knew his team took a heavy defeat but was proud that they never let their heads drop. “They were very good and they scored early and took the game away from us. But when we got our defence right and went at them we caused them real problems. So we will take postitives from today despite the scoreline. Rachel Nolan and Roisin Doyle came back into the team and just tackled their hearts out. Aoife Collaran and Laura O’Donnell both started their first competitive games of rugby and really got stuck in. And the legend that is Anne ‘Kavo’ Kavanagh came back too and was excellent. But Vicky Cobbe was our woman of the match because she was just excellent in everthing she did and never let her standards drop.”
