Tallaght’s women’s team took on Wanderers in Division 4 of the Women’s league.

As Wanderers were short of players the game was played with ten players a side. At the start Wanderers dominated possession but the Tallaght defence held out well. Tallaght got some possession and Sorcha Burns put full back Jensen Byrne away to score a try under the posts. Louise Leonard converted to give Tallaght a 7-0 lead.

Tallaght centre Chloe Conroy made a powerful burst that broke several tackles. She was hauled down close to the line but Abbie Keeley was in support to score the try and Leonard converted again to make it 14-0 at half-time.

In the second half Tallaght continued to dominate and Chloe Conroy made another excellent break and offloaded to Nikita Murray to score her first try for the club. Conroy was heavily involved in the approach work for the next try too which was finished by skipper Eileen Shanahan to make it 24-0. Wanderers kept fighting and they got an intercept try which they converted to make the final score 24-7 to Tallaght. The win leaves Tallaght second in the table behind the South East Lions.

Tallaght’s head coach Hayley Whyte was delighted to see her side get back to winning ways. “Wanderers came at us hard at the start but our defence was resolute. Then we began to find space out wide and it was especially great to see Nikita score her first try for the club. Abbie Keeley had a great all round game and Orlaith Plunkett and Chloe Controy made some great runs. But our player of the match is Niamh Moore who tackled herself to a standstill. Thanks to all the supporters who came out today. We’ve another home game next Sunday against the South East Lions. It’ll be first versus second in the table so we’re looking forward to that and hopefully a big crowd will come out again to cheer the girls on.”
