The Tallaght/Guinness “Bistos” took on DLSP in their first home match in Metro league Division 7.

DLSP came into the game as league leaders and they showed why by quickly racing into a 35-0 lead after twenty minutes. The Bistos switched tactics to try to keep the ball in the forwards through pick and drives and that worked to slow down the scoring. Mick Corrigan also went over for a try to make it 35-5 at half-time.

In the second half the Bistos kept it relatively competitive for most of it and Aaron Smith showed great power to break several tackles to score a fine try. But as the Bistos tired, DLSP scored some late tries to make the final score 59-10. The score would have been worse without a try-saving tackle from Craig O’Brien when the DLSP second row seemed set to score from a breakaway run.

Bistos co-Head Coach Tom Davies was pleased with how his team stuck at it after the bad start. “It looks bad when they took such a big lead so early. But once the lads stuck with the gameplan we were able to dominate possession and frustrate them. We got over for a couple of good scores of our own but with so few subs, it was inevitable that we’d tire at the end and they took advantage. They’re a good side and they look like they’ll be up there at the end of the season. But we’ll take the positives and will work to improve.”
